We drove further west, out of the Sierra Nevada, past Pampaneira, Orgiva and Lanjarón. The villages are all stuck to a hillside, painted white, and with flat roofs. It sometimes smelled (or rather stunk…) of dried ham (Jamón Serrano). It’s THE speciality of that region.

We then reached Granada.

We headed straight to the Alhambra. It’s a huge moorish palace. Since we didn’t feel like being around a lot of people, we decided to just walk around it.

We walked down the Cuesta del Rey Chico and saw the Alhambra from below.

The old part of Granada is very picturesque, but some parts are also quite run down.

We did go within the walls of the Alhambra a bit – as the day passed on, there were less and less people.

Of course we also appreciated all the green and the flowers!

In the evening we drove on towards our next destination, again through hills full of olive tree plantations. Where are all the vines ? Nothing but olives…
