Minas de São Domingos / Pulo do Lobo / Serpa / Albufeira de Alqueva – 6.4.2022

We spent the night at the shore of the Tapada Grande.

The village Minas de São Domingos turned out to be quite nice:

We saw somebody taking his donkey for a ride…

Iron used to be mined here:

Now the lake is toxic. The colours of the rocks are fantastic!

An old lady showed us around the ruins of the mining buildings. She explained a lot – in Portuguese…

Some animals, and lovely flowers in a park nearby 🙂

This washhouse is still being used ! The football grounds could do with a lawn…

Driving past pigs and sheep, and through a dehesa …

… to have a look at the Pulo do Lobo from the eastern side:

We then drove north …

… with a stop in Serpa, to get some food. We ended up walking through the whole town. Everywhere it smelled of orange blossoms! The famous Queijo Serpa (sheep cheese) is from here.

The evening light put a magical veil all over the landscape !

We arrived just in time for the sunset at the Albufeira (barrier lake) de Alqueva.

About five cats kept coming to this bath tub – we found out that somebody had put dry cat food in there !
