The campsite in Hellissandur was in the middle of a lava field. In the village we saw a few nice murals, and just outside the village is the biggest stone church of Iceland.

Der Campingplatz in Hellissandur ist inmitten eines Lavafeldes. Im Dorf sahen wir ein paar schöne Wandmalereien, und ca. 1 km ausserhalb ist die grösste Steinkirche von Island.

It was a rainy and dreary day, so we only stopped in Ólafsvik for shopping and then drove straight Grundarfjörður. To give an impression of the region: here a few snapshots out of the moving van.

Es war ein regnerischer und trüber Tag, deshalb fuhren wir nach einem kurzen Einkaufsstop in Ólafsvik direkt nach Grundarfjörður. Um einen Eindruck der Gegend zu vermitteln: hier ein paar Momentaufnahmen aus dem fahrenden Büssli.

The campsite at Grundarfjörður has modern sanitary facilities, but only an open-air shower 😉

… all the way to Stykkishólmur. The yellowish house can be seen in the film „The secret life of Walter Mitty“ 🙂 In the film it’s a restaurant, in 2014 it was a shop, but now it’s empty.

The harbour. Boats leave from there across Breiðafjörður. Breiðafjörður is dotted with about 3000 islands!

Der Hafen. Vor dort fahren Schiffe über den Breiðafjörður. Im Breiðafjörður gibt es ca. 3000 Inseln!

The church has a special shape! We went for a small walk, accompanied by a lot of common snipes.

Die Kirche hat eine spezielle Form! Wir machten einen kleinen Spaziergang, begleitet von vielen Bekassinen.
