Leaving the Westfjords, and driving south again. First stop was in Hólmavík. We didn’t go to the witches museum, because we were there in 2014 already.
Wir verliessen die Westfjorde und fuhren gegen Süden. Erster Halt war in Hólmavík. Das Hexen-Museum besuchten wir diesmal nicht, wir waren im 2014 bereits dort.
We crossed over a pass to get to the Breiðafjörður.
Wir überquerten einen Pass, um zum Breiðafjörður zu gelangen.
In Breiðafjörður there is a peninsula – one side is Skarðsströnd and the other side is Fellsströnd. It’s a secluded place, not many tourists visit this area.
Eine Halbinsel ragt in den Breiðafjörður – eine Seite heisst Skarðsströnd, die andere Seite Fellsströnd. Es ist eine einsame Halbinsel, mit wenig Touristen.
We saw two young arctic foxes ! And of course lots of horses and sheep.
Wir sahen zwei junge Polarfüchse ! Und natürlich viele Pferde und Schafe.
Skarðsströnd seemed more lonely than Fellsströnd.
Skarðsströnd schien einsamer zu sein als Fellsströnd.
We could see the rain on the other side of the fjord… It looked ominous.
Wir sahen den Regen auf der anderen Seite des Fjords… Es sah bedrohlich aus.
In Búðardalur we stopped at the Dalakot for a tasty meal. We were there already on June 14th.
In Búðardalur assen wir eine leckere Mahlzeit im Dalakot. Am 14. Juni waren wir bereits in diesem Restaurant.
Driving over one more pass before we joined the ringroad again.
Noch über einen Pass, dann waren wir wieder auf der Ringstrasse.
The sat nav wanted us to drive on a F-road (only for „real“ 4×4 cars). With a little detour we found the campsite in Varmaland.
Das Navi wollte uns über eine F-Strasse (nur für „echte“ 4×4 Autos) locken. Mit einem kleinen Umweg fanden wir den Campingplatz Varmaland trotzdem.
The main reason we drove that far south again was the Hraunfossar (= lava falls). It is fascinating how the water streams through layers of lava. Over a distance of more than 700 metres the water pours out of the lava, in over a hundred little waterfalls.
Der Hauptgrund, dass wir wieder gegen Süden gefahren sind, war der Hraunfossar (= Lava-Wasserfälle). Es ist faszinierend, wie das Wasser unter einer Lavaschicht hervortritt. Auf einer Länge von mehr als 700 Metern strömt das Wasser in über hundert Wasserfällen aus der Lava.
Just above the Hraunfossar is another waterfall, the Barnafoss.
Unmittelbar vor dem Hraunfossar ist ein anderer Wasserfall, der Barnafoss.

We also saw lots of lovely flowers 🙂

A café is there, too.
Es gibt dort auch ein Café.
On the way back we noticed a lot of „hidden“ cottages – probably weekend houses.
Auf dem Rückweg sahen wir viele „versteckte“ Häuschen – wahrscheinlich Wochenend-Häuschen.
We saw these houses because we drove around a hill instead of going back the way we came.
Diese Häuser sahen wir, weil wir einen Umweg um einen Hügel gemacht haben.
We stopped at Deildartunguhver hot springs. It’s the most powerful hot spring in Europe!
Wir machten Halt bei den heissen Quellen in Deildartunguhver. Es sind die wasserreichsten heissen Quellen in ganz Europa!
It was amazing to watch the bubbling in the colourful setting!
Es war fantastisch, dem Sprudeln in der farbigen Umgebung zuzuschauen!
Driving back to the ringroad.
Fahrt zurück auf die Ringstrasse.
We wanted to climb the crater Grábrók.
Wir wollten noch auf den Krater Grábrók.
The view over Bifröst and all around was great.
Die Aussicht über Bifröst und die ganze Umgebung war super.
The last place we wanted to see that day was the Glanni waterfall. It is the dwelling place of elves and trolls, but we didn’t see any.
Die letzte Sehenswürdigkeit an diesem Tag war der Glanni Wasserfall. Es ist ein Wohnsitz von Elfen und Trollen, aber wir sahen keine.
The river Norðura is one of the major salmon rivers of Iceland. The salmons didn’t use the fish pass though, but jumped up the waterfall instead !
Der Fluss Norðura ist einer der bedeutendsten Lachsflüsse Islands. Die Lachse benutzten aber nicht die Fischtreppe, sondern versuchten, den Wasserfall hochzuspringen !

… is Paradísarlaut, a hollow with a little pond. It’s a wonderful place 🙂
… ist Paradísarlaut, eine Vertiefung mit einem kleinen Teich. Es ist ein wunderbarer Ort 🙂
