There are some places we still want to see in the east of Iceland, so we drove northeast again. Impressions en route.
Wir wollten noch an ein paar Orte im Osten von Island, deshalb fuhren wir wieder gegen Nordosten. Impressionen von unterwegs.
When we see people on bicycles, we always think of Georg and Jacqueline. You have to be tough to travel Iceland by bike !
Wir denken immer an Georg und Jacqueline, wenn wir Velofahrern begegnen. Man muss zäh sein, um Island mit dem Velo zu erkunden ! Hut ab 🙂
We stopped at Laugarbakki for the night. The campsite is behind a café / shop / museum / craftshop. Interesting place !
Wir übernachteten in Laugarbakki. Der Campingplatz liegt hinter einem Café / Laden / Museum / Handwerkermärit. Interessante Bude !
The evening light enticed us to go for a little walk.
Das Abendlicht verleitete uns zu einem kleinen Spaziergang.
The following day we drove around the peninsula Vatnsnes.
Am nächsten Tag fuhren wir um die Halbinsel Vatnsnes.
The first photoshooting was in Ánastaðastapi.
Der erste Fotostop war in Ánastaðastapi.
Further along the coast is Hamarsrétt. Across the fjord we could see Drangsnes, in the Westfjords (where we were a few days ago).
Weiter der Küste entlang liegt Hamarsrétt. Auf der andere Seite des Fjords erkannten wir Drangsnes, in den Westfjorden (wo wir vor ein paar Tagen waren).
We saw some seals, lying in the sun.
Wir sahen ein paar Seehunde am „sünnele“.
Quite often we come across monuments about famous poets or other characters.
Wir treffen oft auf Denkmäler berühmter Poeten oder anderer Persönlichkeiten.
The coast is lovely, with a good view across to the westfjords.
Die Küste ist sehenswert, und wir hatten gute Sicht auf die Westfjorde.
At Illugastaðir we went for a little walk, to see the seals.
In Illugastaðir wanderten wir zu den Seehunden.
At first we mainly saw birds and ducks !
Zuerst sahen wir vor allem Vögel und Enten !
We enjoyed the walk anyway 🙂

There were more than 70 seals !

We continued to the other side of the peninsula Vatnsnes.
Weiter ging’s auf die andere Seite der Halbinsel Vatnsnes.
Just before Ósar is the basalt stack Hvítserkur.
Unmittelbar vor Ósar ist der Basaltfelsen Hvítserkur.
One more destination for that day was located inland.
Die letzte Destination an jenem Tag lag ein bisschen im Landesinnern.
It was a canyon called Kolugljúfur.
Es war die Schlucht Kolugljúfur.
Our camper van was quite dirty, driving on that gravel road. The drive back towards the coast was marvellous 🙂
Unser Büssli war ziemlich schmutzig, nach der Fahrt auf der Schotterstrasse. Die Fahrt zurück an die Küste war fantastisch 🙂
We recommend the campsite in Skagaströnd – its owners are very friendly and witty, and the site itself has everything you need, and it’s clean.
Wir empfehlen den Campingplatz in Skagaströnd – die Besitzer sind sehr freundlich und lustig, und der Platz hat alles was man braucht, und er ist sauber 🙂

Quite often there are little huts with a toilet – mostly clean, and with paper and soap ! They are to be found at parking sites for hikers, or at places of interest like here at the lighthouse.
Wir haben oft kleine Toiletten-Häuschen angetroffen – mehrheitlich sauber, mit Papier und Seife ! Sie sind bei Wanderparkplätzen oder bei Sehenswürdigkeiten – z.B. einem Leuchtturm wie hier.

Another little walk at Ketubjörg. Steep coast and a lovely waterfall that falls directly onto the beach 🙂

Driving back to Skagaströnd on the inland road.
