Leaving Varmaland in the rain, to Skagaströnd. We had a lovely meal at the harbour restaurant 🙂 It’s always amazing how the restaurants (houses in general) look from the outside… Not very inviting!

Wir verliessen Varmaland im Regen und fuhren nach Skagaströnd. Im Hafen-Restaurant hatten wir eine sehr leckere Mahlzeit 🙂 Es ist immer wieder erstaunlich, wie nicht-einladend die Restaurants (Häuser allgemein) von aussen aussehen…

The campsite at Skagaströnd looks inviting though – we’ve spent a few days there in July already. This time we had a couple of fun hours watching our washing 🙂

Der Campingplatz in Skagaströnd sieht aber einladend aus – wir waren im Juli bereits ein paar Tage dort. Diesmal verbrachten wir ein paar tolle Stunden mit unserer Wäsche 🙂

In Akureyri I was hoping to get some help with my camera. Unfortunately the chap in the camera shop didn’t have a clue 😦 A coffee in a cool place cheered me up a bit.

In Akureyri erhoffte ich mir Hilfe mit meiner Kamera. Leider hatte der Angestellte im Kameraladen keine Ahnung 😦 Ein Kaffee in einem coolen Beizli tröstete mich ein bisschen.

We then spent about a week on the peninsula Tröllaskagi. In this blog post we show photos of Dalvík, the next couple of posts will be of Siglufjörður and Ólafsfjörður.

The swimming bath. In Iceland there are swimming baths in nearly every village, and sometimes also in the middle of nowhere. Most of them have hot tubs. Natural hot tubs are to be found in a lot of places, too. It’s great for people who like that.

Das Schwimmbad. In Island gibt’s fast in jedem Dorf ein Schwimmbad, manchmal auch im Nirgendwo. Die meisten haben ein (oder mehrere) Jacuzzis. Natürliche heisse Quellen zum baden gibt’s an sehr vielen Orten. Es ist „hüeregüet“ für Anita und andere Leute, welche das lieben!

We had a yummy dinner at Gregor’s.

Wir hatten ein leckeres Abendessen im Gregor’s.

A fountain in a little park, an interesting balcony, barbecue on the railing and a disastrous car.

Ein Springbrunnen in einem kleinen Park, ein interessanter Balkon, ein Grill auf dem Geländer und ein katastrophales Auto.

Our favourite restaurant in Dalvík, the Gisli Eirikur Helgi Kaffihûs Bakkabrædra. We noticed that closing times normally mean the time when the kitchen closes. People can finish their meal in peace without haste after that.

Unser Lieblingsrestaurant in Dalvík, das Gisli Eirikur Helgi Kaffihûs Bakkabrædra. Wir haben festgestellt, dass die Schliesszeiten nur bedeuten, dass ab dieser Zeit die Küche geschlossen ist. Die Leute dürfen ihr Mahl auch danach noch ohne Eile fertig essen.

The washing lines in Iceland look different to ours!

Die Wäscheleinen in Island sind anders als bei uns! Der Töff mit Seitenwagen ist speziell für Müslä 🙂

Of course we also spent some time at our favourite whale watching spot! Sometimes we also saw dolphins – or is one of them a whale ?

Natürlich verbrachten wir auch Zeit an unserem Lieblings-Wal-Beobachtungs-Platz! Manchmal sahen wir auch Delphine – oder ist eines davon ein Wal ?

One day we did a walk on the old road, above the tunnel leading to Ólafsfjörður.

An einem der Tage wanderten wir auf der alten Strasse, oberhalb des Tunnels nach Ólafsfjörður.

The sheep weren’t used to people. We took our time, noticing small things, too!

Die Schafe waren Menschen nicht gewohnt. Wir nahmen uns Zeit, bemerkten auch die kleinen Dinge!

There came a point where we couldn’t go any further – the path was blocked.

Wir kamen zum Punkt wo wir nicht mehr weiter konnten – der Weg war verschüttet.

We haven’t yet seen any colourful butterflies in Iceland 😦

Bis jetzt haben wir in Island noch nie farbige Schmetterlinge gesehen 😦

We did see whales from up there ! Or were they dolphins ? Whatever, we could hear them well, crashing onto the waves!

Von dort oben sahen wir Wale ! Oder waren das Delphine ? Wie auch immer, wir hörten gut, wie sie auf die Wellen knallten !

Luckily the days last a long time around that time of the year. It was well after 8pm already.

Zum Glück sind die Tage sehr lang um diese Jahreszeit. Es war wieder mal weit nach 20 Uhr.

Obviously the one track tunnel is blocked by a red light when a lorry drives through.

Offenbar wird der einspurige Tunnel gesperrt mittels Ampel, wenn ein Lastwagen durchfährt.

Another walk took us into a nature reserve close to the village.

Eine andere Wanderung führte uns in ein Naturreservat in der Nähe des Dorfes.

Yarrow is a very common plant there.

Schafgarbe ist dort eine weit verbreitete Pflanze.

The atmosphere was lovely and peaceful 🙂

Die Stimmung war wunderbar friedlich 🙂

Another day we drove through a valley close to Dalvík.

An einem anderen Tag fuhren wir durch ein kleines Tal neben Dalvík.

On a clear day you can see Grimsey. That’s an island on the arctic circle and the most northern inhabited area of Iceland.

An klaren Tagen sieht man Grimsey. Das ist eine Insel auf dem Polarkreis und ist das nördlichste bewohnte Gebiet von Island.
