Clapper Bridge / beaches / Doo Valley / Aasleagh Falls – 13.7.2023

Locals gave us some tips about where to go. We find the Irish to be very helpful and friendly!

This clapper bridge is 50 metres long and has 37 arches.

We drove south along the coast.

One of the first of the many beaches we visited that day was the Cross Beach.

We came to a road that was closed.

The next beach was the White Strand.

The weather got worse, it threatened to rain. We didn’t spend much time at the beaches… The next one was the Silver Strand.

On the way to Doo Valley. It started to rain heavily.

The Doo Valley is very beautiful – unfortunately much misfortune came over the valley at the time of the Great Famine.

You can only guess at how beautiful it is. What a shame about the rain…

The tip we got from the locals in the morning was Tawnyard Lough. To get there you have to turn off at the bottom of Doo Lough.

Sheep with interesting horns !

Instead of enjoying the view, we drove back again.

We reached Ireland’s only (or one of three, depending where you look it up!) fjords, the Killary Fjord.

Right at the end of it are the Aasleagh Falls.

We followed the fjord on the other side …

… till we got to the Wild Atlantic sign „Killary Harbour“.

We turned off the main road N59 that goes all through Connemara and drove along Lough Fee and to the west coast.
