Cleggan Head – 18.7.2023

Some impressions from Cleggan. There was an announced power cut (for several hours, because they put up new poles or something), so no electricity in the shops… Sometimes Kurt shows creativity when it comes to refilling the water tank 🙂

We parked the van vis-à-vis from Cleggan, and started our loop walk from there.

The walled garden looked a bit different to what we had seen just lately! And the owner of the sheep might be a supporter of YB football club 🙂

The coastline was magnificent ! We saw some blooming gorse 🙂

A little beach, well secluded.

From here on, the path was less and less visible, so we just walked above the cliffs…

… using the paths that the sheep made.

A bit further on it wasn’t so steep anymore.

The cliffs became steeper again.

Sometimes it was very difficult to walk, because it was so boggy! And a couple of times we had to climb over a barbed wire fence 😉

The Cleggan Cliffs !

The ground was getting so swampy that we decided to cut across the hill to where we started our walk from.

We then drove to Clifden, a place we’d been to quite a few times by now. The first photo shows the nullifying of speed limits and at the same time tells you to slow down… The road with the cyclists shows a speed limit of 100 km/h !

In Clifden.

We had a delicious meal at „Off the Square“! When I ordered an „iced coffee“, they first apologized for not serving them, and told me to get one at the café next door (they do that apparently 🙂 ), but then they offered to try and make me one. The result: an espresso, a jar of milk, and a glas with ice cubes 🙂

It wasn’t late, so we decided to drive along the coastal road of the peninsula Errislannon.

Sometimes the roads are wide and with two lanes, then suddenly they become narrow and only have one lane. On top of it, there might be a car parked on the road just when you turn the corner!

We stayed at Clifden Campsite & Caravan Park for the night. It’s the best campsite we’ve stayed at so far during these holidays 🙂

There was even some red sky!
