Ballynahinch Estate / Bog road – 20.7.2023

We weren’t so sure about the weather, so we decided to drive to Clifden and then east on the N59 and see where it might take us.

At one point we turned off the N59 and got to this special stone bridge.

We parked the van and went exploring 🙂

Some steps led down to a little island full of flowers.

The Greenway cycle route is passing through there. This route mainly runs on old railway tracks. The old station is still standing. Rust is gnawing…

There was an information board about a loop walk! We didn’t want to miss that.

It turned out to be a beautiful walk through forests and along lakes and little streams.

It was all around the estate of Ballynahinch castle.

We got to the castle itself. It’s now a luxury hotel …

… with a beautiful garden …

… and a restaurant also for non-residents.

Lush hydrangeas and some other flowers !

The path back to our van was along a little stream.

The bog road leads through the bog, as the name says 😉

The peninsula left of Ballyconneely is full of narrow streets and lovely beaches …

… and a few cows.

We stayed at Bunowen Pier for the night, with Bunowen castle across the bay, and a smokehouse behind us …

… and even a bit of red sky 🙂
