Welshpool / Castle Powis – 10.+11.8.2023

We wanted to go and see family in the Midlands, so we drove east. In Welshpool we first stopped at a little pond, at the nature reserve Llyn Coed y Dinas.

There were mainly ducks, cormorans and geese.

We then went to Welshpool. A railway line was shut down in 1956 but now runs again as a tourist attraction.

The Montgomery canal runs through Welshpool. We walked along it for some time.

A lock in the middle of town. The canal is very very narrow there!

Soon we were surrounded by green.

I didn’t feel in top form that day. We turned round at that point.

The sky looked a bit threatening.

We strolled through town and had Fish’n Chips 🙂

The next day we went to Castle Powis. A lot of other people had the same idea…

How lovely, the way the windows are overgrown!

A few peacocks were walking around as if they owned the place. Maybe they do…

We went for a walk around the huge garden. It’s all designed and arranged, but lovely all the same 🙂

In the forest there are very tall sequoia trees …

… and a lot of hydrangeas …

… and a view of the surrounding countryside …

… and a giant foot (!) and beautiful trees and butterflies.

The castle is very big. The grounds may be used to play games!

The other part of the garden is even more cultivated.

There is an abundance of flowers!

I photographed only a small part of the many flowers!

A few pretty houses.

Colourful bushes.

It was a real pleasure for the eyes and the soul 🙂

A few statues.

An interesting yew tree (but not as much as the one in Crom Estate!) …

… and a huge yew tree.

Close to the castle are a few alcoves …

… and a few special stairs. balustrades and doors!

The lord of the castle went to great lengths to ensure that everything is perfect!

Once again, we were too late to see the inside of the castle 😉

We then left Wales (only for a short trip to Kingswinford), to see family that we haven’t seen for a long time 🙂
