Nevern / Pentre Ifan / Newport / Dinas Head – 17.8.2023

We had a good night next to the Trewern Arms 🙂

The village Nevern has an old church and cemetry, and remains of a castle. The 18th century mounting steps were used by the nobility to mount and dismount their horses in a dignified manner.

A very old celtic cross from about the 10th century is still standing.

A lot of the gravestones are crooked or overgrown.

The cushions for the churchgoers are very colourful 🙂 Inside the church are also instructions of how to look after the graveyard!

Old walls and gates, and flowers and butterflies.

Old yew trees, some are even „bleeding“!

Next to the graveyard is a little brook. The path continues there, through the garden of a house.

Behind the church the path leads past a pilgrims cross and pilgrims steps, then up to the remains of the castle.

There isn’t much left of the castle…

We liked the mechanism at the gate to let dogs pass 🙂

We then drove on, because …

Wir fuhren dann weiter, weil …

… not far from Nevern is a neolithic burial chamber, Pentre Ifan.

It’s quite impressive, how the enormous capstone rests on only three supporting stones.

Our next destination was Newport. At the Blas at Fronlas we had a coffee and a lovely chat with a small Welsh girl (and her mother), who tried to teach us some Welsh, and inquired about our provenance 🙂

We wanted to walk on Dinas Head, so we parked at the beach Pwllgwaelod.

We walked up and around the peninsula.

The weather was unsettled, but we were lucky and there was no rain 🙂 The colours were fantastic!

We saw Newport Sands, where we were the day before.

Some lovely flowers 🙂

The picturesque Cwm-yr-Eglwys !

Walking back to our van.

We parked for the night above Dinas Cross, with a fantastic view!

The clouds prevented a sunset, but we enjoyed it anyway.

At night it’s clearly visible why this village has the word „cross“ in its name 🙂
