Marloes – 25.8.2023

Our place for the night in St Ishmael.

Marloes is a little village. Some of the houses there:

We did the loop walk along the coast of Marloes peninsula.

The red rocks looked amazing!

The path itself was not very spectacular. We only saw few butterflies and flowers.

The water was crystal clear.

At Martin’s Haven is a stone slipway which acts as an embarkation point for the ferry which visits the nearby island of Skomer, a national nature reserve.

Some interesting information. There is a funny explanation on the first table about the „Breeding Area Protection Zone“: the area with the colour orange you should „avoid, be quiet or dead slow“ 🙂

A little hut holds an exhibition about the „Skomer Marine Conservation Zone“.

Some swallows‘ nests with hungry little ones 🙂

There is also a little shop. A board explains how to tell a seal pup’s age.

Cows were grazing in the meadow.

We walked to the tip of the peninsula.

At the foot of the cliffs, on small beaches, many baby seals and their parents were lounging.

The bays are secluded and not accessible by foot.

We could tell that a rainfront was approaching …

… but we enjoyed the beautiful coast while there was no rain.

We reached the shelter (the loos by the exhibition) just in time! The hut and the shop were both closed already 😦 There was a torrential rain.

We then returned to the coast to carry on our hike.

The clouds disappeared quickly, and the sun came out again 🙂

Marloes Sands is a beautiful beach 🙂

We walked back to Marloes.

At Dale we went for a coffee. We got it at the „The Boathouse“ even though they had already closed!

The sunset at St Anne’s Head wasn’t quite as lovely as yesterday.
