Coast near Tréguier – 10. – 20.9.2023

The last blog was about Tréguier and its surroundings, and this second part is about the coastal area near Tréguier. It’s part of the „Côte de Granit Rose“ and very beautiful 🙂 Not far from Plouguiel is the bay of Gouermel. The first glimpse of it, as you approach the sea 🙂

Gouermel is a small settlement, with some beautiful flowers and houses.

The bay looks very different, depending on the tide. On these photos it’s nearly high tide.

There is a little restaurant –> Le Gouermel. Years ago you could eat the most delicious galettes and crêpes there. Unfortunately they don’t serve them anymore 😦 It’s more exquisite and more expensive now, but still excellent (booking recommended).

Our dinner took place against a fantastic backdrop

The sunsets in that bay are gorgeous 🙂

A little moor next to the sea.

On the eastern side of the bay is a little pine forest – it’s lovely 🙂

The next village on the western side is Buguélès. Some impressions of its coast.

At low tide you can walk across the beach from Gouermel to Buguéls.

A little further along the coast to the west is Port Blanc.

Houses by the sea, especially for Domi 🙂

A little walk along the coast was very rewarding!

Passion flowers 🙂

Some more impressions.

We turned back when we realised that the sun was about to set.

We love it, when the sky reflects in the water 🙂

It was very peaceful and quiet.

Nearly time to watch the sunset 🙂

From there we had the perfect view!

A couple and their dog went for a swim 🙂

Once again it’s very difficult to chose from the many photos we took…

The colours were fantastic!

Another day in Port Blanc – it’s low tide.

In the background „Les Sept Îles“ are visible. Nobody lives there, it’s a nature sanctuary with gannets (the only breeding area in all of France), guillemots, razorbills, shags, oystercatchers and even puffins! Seals can be found there, too.

The day we were there it was very very windy and cool, so we didn’t walk far.

East of Gouermel is a stretch of coast that we have hiked several times, and we always love it. This time we walked from Pors Scaff to Pointe du Château (and back). Unfortunately it was low tide when we started the walk.

The huge rocks are very impressive!

Our favourite rock 🙂

Flowers and butterflies.

We always like the harmonious interplay of water, rocks and vegetation.

The house between the rocks.

Le Gouffre is a rock formation with a gap. We’ve been there a few times, but we’re yet waiting to visit when the sea is rough, and storms lash the rocks with unchecked force. On this holiday we carried on walking towards La Pointe du Château.

The tide was coming in. There were still plenty of rocks peaking out of the water 🙂

The weather turned really sunny!

The evening light began to unfold its magic 🙂

On another day – the boats are all lying around.

View from a bit higher up.

Yet another day we started our walk at Le Gouffre, continued inland to a place on the banks of the river Jaudy, then walked along the river to La Pointe du Château and back to Le Gouffre.

Brittany is the vegetable garden of France. The artichokes are sold throughout Europe. We also saw a lot of places, where they sell oysters (and you can taste them beforehand).

The river Jaudy.

The red admiral was very active.

The mouth of the river Jaudy.

At the Pointe du Châpeau again.

This kind of light on those rocks – magical 🙂

The chapel Saint-Gonéry in Plougrescant has a slanting tower. Near Le Gouffre is the Crêperie Castel Cafe. They offer simple but tasty galettes.

The restaurant Ty Gouffre is in the same building. The view from there is lovely.

A bit further up the river Jaudy is the village La Roche Jaune.

There are a couple of recommendable restaurants in that village: Le Merle Moqueur and Le Café Pesked. This time we only went to the Pesked. It’s an original restaurant with very good food 🙂

A couple of weeks ago the tide was so high that the whole parking was flooded, and the water even covered the restaurant floor. We were told that the staff then served in bare feet 🙂

The following day we returned home. Already now we’re looking forward to return here 🙂 Here is a map of the area, and the places we visited.
