Leucate (F) / driving to Spain / Ebro delta – 26.-28.12.2023

After a long stay at home (apart from a short trip to Austria), we finally drove off again in our camper van. Shortly after departure with a view of the alps – Chasseral (Jura) – lake of Geneva.

The journey westwards extended the sunset 🙂 The full moon also illuminated the landscape.

We stopped for the night in Leucate, not far from the Spanish border.

We enjoyed being by the sea again!

Lots of starlings were flying around in swarms

On previous trips to Spain we also stopped here. This time there weren’t many flowers.

Departure from Leucate.

Impressions from places along the coast, amongst others from Le Barcarès and Saint-Cyprien.

Driving through the hills, then a stop at the Cap Rederis.

The broad-gauge tracks of the Barcelon – Cerbère railway line end in Cerbère. The French standard gauge continues to the Spanish railway station of Portbou.

The border to Spain looks a bit deserted.

Portbou.

In Port de la Selva we drove up into the hills again …

… then down to Cadaqués. Salvador Dalí spent part of his childhood there, and later he settled in Portlligat, next to Cadaqués. As a result, the town increasingly developed into a centre of attraction for artists. We spent the night in Portlligat.

The following morning we drove off, through the hills again. The wine from that field must be of exquisite quality 😉

Other years we walked around the Cap de Creus, in Roses and in l’Estartit, and we also drove along the Costa Brava. We have already visited the aqueduct (Pont del Diable) near Tarragona, and many other places, but this time we drove straight down south on the AP-7 to the Ebro delta.

We were just in time to marvel at a fantastic evening sky!

There were hundreds of flamingos 🙂

It was very kitschy, but beautiful!

Once again it was difficult not to take too many photos…

We only left when it was getting dark.

An overview map of our journey so far, and a detailed one of the coast.
