The previous blog was about our hikes on Belle-Île – this blog is about the rest. The ferry takes about 50 minutes to reach the island, from Quiberon to Le Palais.

The name Belle-Île is well deserved. The north coast has many small sheltered bays and fine sandy beaches. The south coast is wild, with steep cliffs. Inland, there are gorse and heather landscapes, untouched dunes, and a few small villages with pretty houses.

Le Palais is the biggest town on Belle-Île. It’s quite touristy, but also nice. The citadel bears witness to the island’s military past.
Der Name Belle-Île ist absolut verdient. Die Nordküste hat viele kleine geschützte Buchten und feinsandige Strände. Die Südküste ist wild, mit steilen Klippen. Im Landesinnern hat es Ginster- und Heidelandschaften, unberührte Dünen und ein paar kleine Dörfer mit hübschen Häusern. Tipp für Krimileser: eines der Dupin-Bücher handelt auf dieser Insel: „Bretonische Idylle“!

Le Palais ist der grösste Ort auf Belle-Île. Es ist recht touristisch, aber „härzig“. Die Zitadelle von Vauban zeugt von der militärischen Vergangenheit der Insel.
The „extended“ port is protected by a lock so that boats do not run aground at low tide.
Der „erweiterte“ Hafen ist geschützt mit einer Schleuse, damit die Boote bei Ebbe nicht im Trockenen liegen.
There are also two draw bridges – one for cars and one for pedestrians.
Es gibt auch zwei Ziehbrücken – eine für Autos und eine für Fussgänger.
The town wall and its surroundings are interesting and worth a visit.

Einmal gab’s Musik in den Strassen!
We stayed at the campsite „Le Bordénéo“ these three weeks, because my son and his family rented a little cottage there. Our pitch was right next to them.
Wir verbrachten die ganzen drei Wochen auf dem Campingplatz „Le Bordénéo“, weil mein Sohn und seine Familie dort ein Häuschen gemietet hatten. Unser Stellplatz war direkt neben ihnen.
It was great for Luna – she enjoyed the pool 🙂 We had some lovely skies in the evenings!
