driving to Sicily (part four: Province Vibo Valentia with Tropea) 31.12.25 bis 2.1.26

We stayed in Rossana just outside the Sila national park. A lot of Italians (and we too 🙂 ) also seem to fetch their water from public fountains.

The surrounding area is beautiful.

We intended to drive to the western shore of Italy again, because the weather forecast was better. The road over the Sila mountains, which is probably not used very often, passes through many forests.

Sometimes we hardly believed we were in southern Italy. We even saw snow (at about 1300 metres above sealevel)!

The Lago Cecita seems to be a popular destination for excursions. We’re always amazed by the Italian driving style… Speed limits and road signs are merely annoying guidelines, and double centre lines are for decoration 😉 But somehow it works – everybody seems to be considerate enough…

The roads improved, and there were many bridges.

Our destination wasTropea. We went for a walk through town. You can see the Stromboli volcano from there!

We had a meal at „That’s Amore“ and later a coffee at „Madison Café“.

Right on time at midnight, at the start of the new year, a loud bang startled us…

Fireworks that went astray shattered our side window 😦 We spent the first couple of hours of the new year on the phone and taping up the window…

Since there was no chance to have it replaced immediately, we carried on enjoying ourselves and went for another walk around Tropea.

There are interesting rocks down by the beach.

The sanctuary Santa Maria dell’Isola was closed.

Amazing, how these houses were built on the rocks!

We walked to the port.

The burgers at the Aris Pub were delicious!

Stairs lead up to the town.

We carried on walking through town. It’s worth a visit, there are many lovely little roads.

We enjoyed the sunset before we left Tropea.

According to our car assistance, there is a Carglass in Vibo Valentia. But – it was closed (due to relocation) 😦 That’s why we sealed our window even better – it’s now like an Italian multilayer glass 😉

We drove south again, towards Capo Vaticano. Impressions en route: a lot of unfinished houses, about a thousand posters advertising for „Fabrizia“, lots of rubbish on the side of the roads, fields full of yellow flowers …

Photos from the campsite La Scogliera. We wonder what it will look like in summer, when all the work is finished 😉 The sanitary installations were a bit eerie. There were countless showers, but according to other campers all with cold water 😦

The campsite had its own beach 🙂

To explore the vicinity we drove to Santa Maria. We searched in vain for an open café.

That’s why we drove on to Ricadi. Our satnav took us along a route that wasn’t really suitable for our vehicle! In Ricadi we went shopping and had a coffee.

Driving back to the campsite we loved the scenery 🙂
