Sicily: Itala, Forza d’Agrò, Castelmola, Taormina – 6. – 9.1.26

Arriving in Tremestieri, after a 45 minutes ferry ride from Villa San Giovanni.

We had no plan where to go first – we turned south. The app park4night often helps to find places to stay. After consulting it, we chose Itala as our first overnight parking. In Itala Marina we turned inland.

We took a stroll through the village.

The streets are very steep, and in the districts Mannello and Borgo we encountered a lot of stairs!

The restaurant Le Giare served us excellent food, and the staff was very friendly 🙂

The following day we drove along the coast, with a couple of stops to take photos of the black sand.

We’re still intrigued by the chaotic driving and parking 😉

The Castello di Sant’Alessio Siculo looks very impressive on the big rock.

The signpost Forza d’Agrò indicated that it was a beautiful village, so we took the winding road up.

It was raining, so we only went to a restaurant, instead of visiting the village…

Our next stopover was in Taormina.

The parking had an excellent view of the sea and the train station Taormina Giardini.

The different views with the rainbow and the clouds were beautiful.

There are even fairy lights on the fence 🙂

The following morning I got up early enough to admire the sunrise!

We then drove up, past Taormina, to Castelmola. First the weather was rainy, but it soon turned brighter.

A lift goes up to the ruins of a castle. But it doesn’t work… We walked through the village. Sicily is known for its ceramics.

From Castelmola you get a good view of Taormina, and its amphitheatre and fortress.

When it started to rain again we took shelter in a cosy restaurant with a joyful and friendly owner.

During a break from the rain we walked up to the ruins of the fortress.

During the next downpour we had a siesta in our camper van. Then we continued our stroll through the village.

The evening sun bathed everything in beautiful light.

The sun set behind Mount Etna.

The following morning Mount Etna presented itself beautifully 🙂

We drove down towards Taormina, with a stop near the castle. There is a tiny church.

The visit to the castle was a bit expensive… We left it. Looking down to Taormina and up to Castelmola.

A quick stop at Taormina for some shopping, then we drove to the „parking with a view“ (where we were the night before yesterday). Note our Italian way of parking 😉

From there we walked back up to Taormina, on a very steep path. It’s much better to go there without a car!

Taormina is very touristy, with a lot of souvenir shops.

It was a bit late to visit the „Teatro Antico“ (amphitheatre), so we carried on walking …

… till we reached the Parco Trevelyan.

We loved this park, with its interesting buildings and the old trees 🙂

Back the steep path to our camper van.

Evening sky and morning sky.
