Sicily: Faraglioni di Scopello – 30.1.26

Near the south entrance to the Zingaro national park is the village Scopello. Driving there, past quarries and green land.

We missed the Cala Bianca and the Cala Rossa.

The Torre Bennistra, a tower above Scopello.

Scopello is a very small village, but very pretty and with a few funny details: e.g. the cash machine is under surveillance, and the building for the carabinieri (police) is tiny 🙂

We drank a coffee at the one open bar. The owner locked up after we’d been – two customers a day might be enough 😉

The village square.

A beautiful gate and the yard behind it.

Stroll through the village.

An open-air church!

A restaurant with a fantastic view – closed unfortunately.

We intended to walk down to the faraglioni (cliffs).

Taking our time to look at the flowers.

The scenery looks impressive. There is a disused tuna factory.

The stacks are great!

The factory was not accessible.

Once again, we noticed threatening clouds coming our way. We hurried back up the hill, on a short cut …

… only to find a locked gate. It wasn’t the first gate we climbed over 😉 When we reached our van, it started pouring down!

Despite the rain we drove to the south entrance of the Zingaro national park.

As we already knew and the man in the cubbyhole confirmed: it was closed.

We then tried to catch a glimpse of the stacks from the other side. In vain – there are private properties all along the coast.

We decided to drive back to Nubia. The weather brightened up again.

Our destination was the sunset at the Torre di Nubia.

The road was very very wet …

… and there were many clouds.
