Sicily: Marsala – 24.1.26

Marsala is a town south of Trapani. We drove there along the coast, past many flooded fields.

Kurt managed to take photos of two flamingos courting!

At the Torre di San Teodoro.

Lovely flowers along the road.

The lay-out of the roads was interesting: there was always a stop sign on the main road at the level crossings.

Reaching Marsala …

… and the westernmost point of Sicily.

It’s best to enter the old part of Marsala through the gate „Porta Garibaldi“.

„Cortile uffici comunali“, the courtyard of the council offices.

We loved these trees!

Piazza della Repubblica.

Strolling through town.

Unfortunately the wine museum was closed. We only got as far as the entrance yard.

Porta Nuova.

Just outside this gate we tasted the famous Marsala wine -> Marsala wine

Villa Cavallotti, a community garden …

… with lovely trees …

… a playground and a restaurant at the back (currently closed).

Some not very pretty houses, and the pretty dome of the Chiesa di San Francesco.

A little park.

Finding our way back to the Porta Garibaldi. Luckily we have the app „Komoot“ – with that we always track our walks.

Unfortunately the Mercato del Pesce (fish market) was already closed.

We drove back on the „salt road“.

The road was quite bad, after the storm and all the rain. We passed the jetty where the boats depart for Mozia. Shame we missed out on that trip, but the weather was just too bad -> Mozia

Many fields of vines – of course for Marsala wine!
