There are just so many stunning areas in Iceland, and we have such a lot of beautiful memories, it’s difficult to end our travel journal without a summary…

Reyðarfjörður / Egilsstaðir / Seyðisfjörður and ferry back to Denmark – 5.-9.9.2022
The last few days of our stay in Iceland – a little melancholy and sadness were creeping up… But we’re grateful to have had such a marvellous time in this great country!
A detail from the village Borgarfjörður eystri: the village shop. We then drove back towards Egilsstaðir. Ein Detail aus dem Dorf Borgarfjörður eystri: der Dorfladen. Dann fuhren wir zurück Richtung Egilsstaðir. The gorge Innra Hvannagil is worth a visit – we were there last year. The street traverses the pass with the great view again….
Borgarfjörður eystri / Stórurð – 29.+30.8.2022
We drove north again, with a stop in Fellabær (next to Egilsstaðir). Our favourite café is there, the Bókakaffi. This time we had a delicious pancake, with filling of our choice! Two very friendly sisters own this place, and apart from the wonderful food the interior is really special, with lots of books 🙂 Wir…
Fjarðabyggð (Reyðarfjörður / Eskifjörður / Fáskrúðsfjörður / Neskaupstaður / Stöðvarfjörður) – 21.-28.8.2022
It was very wet at the campsite in Reyðarfjörður… The ducks loved it 🙂 Auf dem Campingplatz in Reyðarfjörður war es sehr nass… Die Enten liebten es 🙂 In Reyðarfjörður we tried to go for a couple of walks mentioned in an app called „Kringum“, but we weren’t very successful… The first, to Einstígsfoss, ended…
Dalvík to Reyðarfjörður via Kopasker and Þorshöfn – 18.-20.8.2022
The weather forecast was pretty bad, so we decided to travel east. We drove past Akureyri and stopped in Husavík at the Café Hérna (highly recommendable!). In 2014 we did a whale watching tour from Husavík. That trip was actually quite successful, but I felt so sick I don’t even remember having seen a whale……
Ólafsfjörður 12.-17.8.2022
Ólafsfjörður is a little town between Dalvík and Siglufjörður. It’s a skiing resort from October till April. We stayed here a few days within that week. In 2014, when we drove around Iceland in a rented car, we stayed two nights in one of these little huts, with our own jacuzzi on the balcony! Ólafsfjörður…
Siglufjörður – 11.-17.8.2022
Siglufjörður used to be an important little town in the 1940s and 1950s because of the herring industry. Now the population has shrunk considerably, because herring fishing is no longer productive in this region. We spent a couple of days in that village within that week.
Leaving Varmaland in the rain, to Skagaströnd. We had a lovely meal at the harbour restaurant 🙂 It’s always amazing how the restaurants (houses in general) look from the outside… Not very inviting!
Meradalir – 6.8.2022
I felt like I was in the wrong movie. After being in Iceland for more than 10 weeks, and hardly ever seeing any other cars, we were flabbergasted to see so many cars all at once!
