Driving into the next fjord through a tunnel – in Ísafjörður we wanted to visit ‚the nonsense museum‘.

Durch den Tunnel in den nächsten Fjord – in Ísafjörður wollten wir das Unsinn-Museum besuchen.

In that museum a lot of nonsense is exhibited.

In diesem Museum wird lauter Unsinn ausgestellt.

We needed a good coffee after all that nonsense 😉 We found it in Heimabyggd.

Nach all diesem Unsinn benötigten wir unbedingt einen guten Kaffee 😉 Wir fanden ihn im Heimabyggd.

Ísafjörður is quite a colourful little town with a lot of old houses.

Ísafjörður ist eine farbenfrohe kleine Stadt mit vielen alten Häusern.

Along the coast lies Bolungarvík, where we already were 10 days ago, to witness the midnight sun.

Weiter der Küste entlang ist Bolungarvík. Vor 10 Tagen waren wir bereits dort, um die Mitternachtssonne zu sehen.

There is a skilift – but we wouldn’t trust it …

Es hat auch einen Skilift – aber dem ist nicht mehr zu trauen …

In a lot of villages in Iceland you can play Frisbee golf.

In vielen Dörfern in Island kann man Frisbee Golf spielen.

At the campsite – there are two hours difference between these two photos.

Auf dem Campingplatz – zwischen diesen Fotos ist eine Differenz von zwei Stunden.

The following day we walked the old road towards Hnifsdalur (halfway to Ísafjörður). Hornstrandir can be seen across the fjord.

Am nächsten Tag wanderten wir auf der alten Strasse nach Hnifsdalur (auf halbem Weg nach Ísafjörður). Auf der anderen Seite des Fjords sieht man Hornstrandir.

It’s easy to see why the old road is not fit for traffic anymore 😉

Es ist offensichtlich, wieso diese alte Strasse nicht mehr befahrbar ist 😉

The side of the mountain is interesting, with lots of moss, lupines, little waterfalls and colourful rocks.

Die Flanke des Berges ist interessant, mit viel Moos, Lupinen, kleinen Wasserfällen und farbenfrohen Felsen.

Birds were nesting in the cliffs, some behind a waterfall! Wafts of mist made for a mystic ambience.

Vögel hatten ihre Nester in den Klippen gebaut, einige sogar hinter einem Wasserfall! Nebelschwaden sorgten für eine mystische Atmosphäre.

Small tunnels und avalanche protectors are not in a very good condition anymore.

Kleine Tunnels und Galerien sind nicht mehr in sehr gutem Zustand.

We turned around at the other tunnel entrance (of the current street tunnel).

Beim anderen Tunneleingang (vom aktuellen Strassentunnel) traten wir den Rückweg an.

Once again we could see the rain coming…

Wieder einmal sahen wir, dass der Regen bald einsetzen wird…

Late at night we were shown anew how tough the icelandic kids are 🙂

Spät an diesem Abend wurde uns wieder gezeigt, wie hart im Nehmen die isländischen Jugendlichen sind 🙂

A village fair in Bolungarvík the following day.

Am nächsten Tag gab’s in Bolungarvík ein Dorffest.

We drove to Ísafjörður again, to visit the „museum of everyday life“. What a cute museum 🙂

Wir fuhren wieder nach Ísafjörður und besuchten das „Museum des Alltäglichen“. Was für ein „härziges“ Museum 🙂

We walked around the harbour a bit more …

Wir spazierten noch ein bisschen im Hafen umher …

… and through the the village, too.

… und auch im Dorf.

We noticed some photos of early days, in snow, and searched the village to find the appropriate setting – like a treasure hunt 🙂

Wir sahen Photos von früher, mit Schnee, und suchten im Dorf die entsprechenden Sujets – wie bei einer Schatzsuche 🙂

Just before Bolungarvík is a beautiful little valley.

Unmittelbar vor Bolungarvík ist ein wunderschönes kleines Tal.

A golf course is there, too. And when we see an excited bird on the road, we know the young one can’t be far away.

Es hat auch einen Golfplatz. Und wenn wir einen aufgeregten Vogel auf der Strasse rumhüpfen sehen, wissen wir, dass die Jungen in der Nähe sind.

Very late at night we drove up Bolafjall. That’s the mountain we wanted to drive to on 20th June, but the road was still closed then.

Spät am Abend fuhren wir auf den Bolafjall. Am 20.6. wollten wir bereits auf diesen Berg, aber damals war die Strasse noch gesperrt.

There is a radar station up there.

Es gibt eine Radarstation dort oben.

It was gorgeous with the sea of fog !

Es war wunderschön mit dem Nebelmeer !

The viewing platform is not finished yet.

Die Aussichtsplattform ist noch nicht fertiggestellt.

How romantic to have our supper in these surroundings 🙂

Erst nach 2 Uhr fuhren wir wieder zum Campingplatz !
