The airport of Ísafjörður is right next to the sea – it would be wise not to miss the landing strip!

Der Flugplatz von Ísafjörður liegt unmittelbar an der Küste – es ist von Vorteil, die Landebahn nicht zu verpassen !

Our next stop along the fjords was at the arctic fox centre in Súðavík …

Unser nächster Halt den Fjorden entlang war in Súðavík beim Arktischen Fuchs Zentrum …

… with lots of information, and a real fox in the garden.

The street went all along the coast, from one fjord into the next one …

Die Strasse folgte dem Küstenverlauf, ins Fjord rein und wieder raus etc. …

In Hvítanes we saw some lazy seals.

In Hvítanes sahen wir ein paar faule Seehunde.

Somebody put jam pots out for sale, with an honesty box to put the money in. In general, much is based on honesty in Iceland 🙂

Jemand bietet Konfitüre an, mit einem Kässeli für ehrliche Leute. Überhaupt beruht in Island sehr viel auf Ehrlichkeit 🙂

Next to the hotel Reykjanes is the campsite we stayed at. We don’t think the hotel would win a beauty award… But the spot for our camper van was beautiful !

Der Campingplatz lag neben dem Hotel Reykjanes. Wir glauben nicht, dass dieses Hotel einen Schönheitswettbewerb gewinnen würde… Aber der Platz für unser Büssli war wunderschön !

The Saltverk is just there. Flaky salt is made there, using only energy from geothermal hot springs.

Das Saltverk ist dort. Für die Herstellung des flockigen Salzes wird nur Energie von den geothermischen heissen Quellen verwendet.

We were allowed a look inside. Three to five people work there, and they harvest (by hand!) about 200 kg per day. In winter even more because there is less fresh water in the sea (no water from the glaciers). This salt gets sold all over Iceland.

Es wurde uns gestattet, einen Blick reinzuwerfen. Drei bis fünf Leute arbeiten dort, und sie ernten (von Hand!) ca. 200 kg pro Tag. Im Winter sogar mehr, weil es weniger Süsswasser im Meer hat (kein Wasser von den Gletschern). Dieses Salz wird in ganz Island verkauft.

A stop at the museum / café Steinshús, an homage to the poet Steinn Steinarr. Exorbitant prices… In general, Iceland is very expensive, even for Swiss conditions.

Wir stoppten im Museum / Café Steinshús, eine Hommage an den Poeten Steinn Steinarr. Masslose Preise… Allgemein ist Island sehr teuer, sogar für schweizerische Verhältnisse.

The weather stayed nice, but it was very windy.

Das Wetter blieb schön, aber es war sehr windig.

In the bay Kaldalón we wanted to walk to the glacier.

In der Bucht von Kaldalón wollten wir zum Gletscher wandern.

It was too windy though 😦

What a shame, because it was beautiful !

Further along the same fjord (Ísafjarðardjúp), to Dalbær.

Weiter dem selben Fjord (Ísafjarðardjúp) entlang bis Dalbær.

In Iceland you can buy e camping card, which is valid on a lot of the sites. Dalbær is not one of them, and it turned out to be the most expensive site so far (2000 kroner per person). Scenically it was gorgeous !

In Island gibt es eine Campingkarte, die auf vielen Plätzen gültig ist. In Dalbær gilt sie nicht, und es stellte sich als der bisher teuerste Platz heraus (2000 Kronen pro Person). Landschaftlich war’s aber sehr schön !

The Westfjords are still far from being as developed as the rest of Iceland, concerning tourism. For us this is great – we love it when there are hardly any people !

Die Westfjorde sind touristisch noch längst nicht so erschlossen wie der Rest von Island. Für uns ist das herrlich – wir lieben die Einsamkeit !

At least once every summer a service is being held in this church 😉

Mindestens einmal pro Sommer wird in dieser Kirche ein Gottesdienst abgehalten 😉

Our hike didn’t last as long as planned, because the little streams got more and more difficult to traverse.

Unsere Wanderung dauerte weniger lang als geplant, weil es immer schwieriger wurde, die kleinen Bäche zu überqueren.

We tried a path along one of the streams, but the same „problem“ occured (missing bridges).

Wir versuchten einen anderen Weg, einem Bach entlang, aber dort hatten wir das gleiche „Problem“ (fehlende Brücken).

Driving back, then across to Drangsnes.

Wir fuhren zurück, dann rüber nach Drangsnes.
