After breakfast we drove south, along the coast. The roads were quite wet in parts. The first stop was in Newcastle. We had a lovely cup of coffee at the „Railway Station“. Lidl is in an unusual building for a shop!

Nach dem Morgenessen fuhren wir der Küste entlang gegen Süden. Die Strassen waren streckenweise recht nass. Der erste Halt war in Newcastle. Im „Railway Station“ gibt es wunderbaren Kaffee. Lidl ist in einem ungewöhnlichen Gebäude untergebracht!

Somewhere we read that the Silent Valley is supposed to be worth a visit, so we chose it as our next destination.

Irgendwo haben wir gelesen, dass das Silent Valley einen Besuch wert sei, deshalb war das unser nächstes Ziel.

It’s a mountain park at the foot of the Mourne Mountains that promises „peace, solitude, adventure“. A fee of five pounds was charged at the entrance.

Es ist ein Park am Fuss der Mourne Berge, mit dem Versprechen „Friede, Einsamkeit, Abenteuer“. Beim Eingang mussten wir fünf Pfund Eintritt bezahlen.

We saw lots of fern and lovely flowers. Unfortunately the gorse was no longer blooming – we only saw one single flower.

Es hatte viel Farn und wunderschöne Blumen. Leider blühte der Stechginster nicht mehr – wir sahen nur eine einzige Blüte.

Auf einem Weiher blühten die Seerosen.

We didn’t find „adventure“, but we did find „peace and solitude“.

Wir fanden kein „Abenteuer“, aber „Friede und Einsamkeit“.

In Northern Ireland we noticed that a lot of picnic tables are equipped with a device for barbecuing!

In Nordirland sind viele Picknick-Tische mit einer Vorrichtung fürs Grillieren ausgestattet!

We reached a reservoir. The dam wasn’t very impressive – it wasn’t high at all.

Wir gelangten zu einem Stausee. Der Damm war nicht sehr eindrücklich – er war überhaupt nicht hoch.

We had a coffee and our „lembas bread“ – scones 🙂 – at the café.

The Watertown House reminded us of an Icelandic house 😉

We left the beautiful valley and drove on towards the west. The landscape was very hilly, with lots of stone walls, many different greens, heather growing on the side of the road, a lot of ruins, and always very polite street signs 🙂

Wir verliessen das schöne Tal und fuhren Richtung Westen. Die Landschaft war sehr hügelig, mit vielen Steinmauern, vielen unterschiedlichen Grüntönen, blühendem Erika am Strassenrand, vielen Ruinen und immer wieder sehr freundlichen Strassenschildern 🙂

The onward journey led partly through Ireland. We crossed the border a couple of times. You could tell by the colour of the street signs, and the information on the speed boards.

Die Weiterreise führte teilweise durch Irland. Wir überquerten die Grenze ein paar Mal. Man bemerkte den Unterschied anhand der Farbe der Strassenschilder, und den Angaben auf den Geschwindigkeitsschildern.

The area around Upper Lough Erne appealed to us. We sometimes chose our destinations by looking at Google Maps and the photos that other people uploaded.

Das Gebiet um den See „Upper Lough Erne“ lockte uns. Wir wählen unsere Ziele manchmal, indem wir auf Google Maps die Fotos anschauen, die andere Leute raufgeladen haben.

We stopped for the night at Galloon Island, right next to the lake. It was gorgeous 🙂

Wir verbrachten die Nacht in Galloon Island, unmittelbar neben dem See. Es war wunderschön 🙂

We enjoyed the sunset on a little walk along the lake.

Wir genossen den Sonnenuntergang bei einem kleinen Spaziergang dem See entlang.
