Ferry to Cherbourg (Normandie) / Barfleur / Gatteville – 8.9.2023

Our last morning on the British mainland, in Poole – feeling sad – and leaving with Brittany Ferries.

We were on the „Barfleur“, and luckily the crossing was very very smooth 🙂

The coast we were at last night, enjoying the sunset! We also drove past Brownsea Castle, and we saw some gannets!

After only four and a half hours we arrived in Cherbourg (Normandie, France).

It was impressive to see the huge parts for wind turbines.

We drove to Barfleur, one of the „plus beaux villages de France“ (= most beautiful villages of France). The fact that Barfleur was included in that list is thanks to its granite: all the buildings were built from the granite of the Armorican massif that is found here.

We went for a stroll along the port …

… and through the village.

We wanted to see the lighthouse at the Pointe de Barfleur, the Phare de Gatteville. The old lighthouse is right next to the new one.

A little walk in the surrounding area.

The sun was beginning to set.

Approaching the lighthouses from the other side.

Sunsets are often very picturesque when there are clouds.

Some birds were looking for food.

The „Etang de Gattemare“.

Two little egrets were dancing 🙂

We spent the night close to the lighthouses.

Our journey that day.
