Les Marais des Ponts d’Ouve / drive to Brittany / Dol-de-Bretagne 9.9.2023

In Gatteville we woke up to glorious sunshine.

Our goal for that day was to reach Brittany. We looked at the map to see what’s on the way that would interest us. We hadn’t been to a bird sanctuary for ages, so „Les Marais des Ponts d’Ouve“ seemed like a good idea 🙂

We were aware that it was probably not a very good time to see birds: it was very very hot, and neither morning nor evening, and not the ideal season.

We did see some though, and we enjoyed the walk, despite the heat.

Unfortunately they were all quite far away.

There were mainly cormorants, ducks, lapwings, swans, coots and beaver rats.

There were also butterflies and we even saw a kingfisher!

Spoonbills and other herons.

Common snipes and some other birds we didn’t know the names of.

Traces of beaver rats (?) and agriculture in the neighbouring fields.

We liked the refuge for travellers 🙂

We then drove to Brittany, past Le Mont St. Michel. We have already visited this site a few times.

Of course we were dying for a delicious galette and crêpe. We found it in Dol-de-Bretagne, at the La Table Ronde.

After that delicious meal we drove on a little further, to Roz-Landrieux, to stay for the night. Our journey that day:
