Around Tréguier – 10. – 20.9.2023

This part of Brittany is one of my favourite places that I’ve ever been. We try to visit it at least once a year. I already wrote some blog entries on this area, and there will (hopefully) be many more to come 🙂 Tréguier is a town in the department of Côtes-d’Armor.

The cathedral of Tréguier.

Of course there are some crêperies!

Our favourite is the „Crêperie des Halles“ 🙂

Next to Tréguier is the village Plouguiel. Our base is there, with one of my dearest people on this earth. During this visit we spent a lot of time there. Apart from enjoying the company we also helped in the garden. It was great to work with our hands for a change 🙂

The river Guindy flows into the Jaudy in Tréguier. We sometimes go for walks along it. Depending on the tides, the river is narrow or wide in the esuary.

The same river with a little more water.

An old aqueduct.

Troguindy.

There used to be a railway in Tréguier.

There are a couple of botanical gardens: one is in Plouguiel, „Les Jardins du Kestellic“, but it was already closed for winter 😦 The other one is in Tréguier, „Les Jardins de Kerdalo“, which we visited. Surely there are more flowers in midsummer, but we still enjoyed it 🙂

It’s a big wooded area, designed and owned by a Russian painter in 1965. All the plants were imported from the UK! Since 2021 it belongs to a Frenchman.

The giant rhubarb looks quite special 🙂

La Grotte Italienne,

The garden reaches down to the river Jaudy. It’s right opposite Tréguier.

There weren’t many flowers in the woods …

… but plenty of fern and other green plants …

… and strange horses …

… and little ponds.

This pond is slightly bigger.

The weather wasn’t bright, but the different greens still looked great!

Around the manor house we finally saw more flowers 🙂

We liked the manor house – there is something rather mysterious about it.

The garden in front of it was luscious.

The area above the house was terraced.

Last impressions.

It was nearly closing time. We spent much more time in that garden than we intended. Of course we were the last ones again…

Here is a map of the area, and the places we visited. In the next blog I will write about the coastal area around Tréguier.
