Sicily: Naxos, Giarre, Misterbianco, Acireale, La Timpa und Santa Maria La Scala, Torre Archirafi – 10.-18.1.26

From our home base in the lemon garden we took several trips to surrounding places. Naxos is a town nearby.

A couple of times we ate at the Lido Europa – a very recommendable address!

There is a long promenade along the beach (Lungomare). Some of the stairs going down to the beach need repairing before the high season starts…

You can see Taormina and Castelmola.

One day there was a storm and heavy rain!

An archaeological museum is there, but we never went in – only walked along the fence when we went for a walk.

The path led us to the mouth of the Alcantara river.

The sun set behind Mount Etna.

Evening impressions from Naxos.

Another day we went to Giarre, to do our washing.

The little village Torre Archirafi has a lovely promenade.

We had a chat with the owner of the fish restaurant „A Scialata Fronte Mare“. He was confident that the forthcoming storm won’t damage his restaurant – we hope he was right!

The holes in the walls indicate previous problems with flooding…

As far as we know the storm „Harry“ was very bad in that region 😦

One evening we went for dinner in Santa Venerina, in „La Bisteccona“.

Our window was still not fixed – we drove to Catania to a Carglass partner and got an address in Misterbianca where it could be fixed. Unfortunately there were several reasons that we didn’t go for the deal to repair it.

In Misterbianco we came upon a funny concept for a restaurant – there was a café at an English school, with a corresponding range of products 🙂

Driving back to the lemon garden. Mount Etna can be seen from everywhere in the area! One of the machines at a toll station on the motorway was covered in stickers. Snow now lay on the surrounding hills, too.

Another day we drove to Acireale.

We had a lovely lunch at the Trattoria gli Abbatazzi „Cucina & Amore“.

Our destination that day was „La Timpa“ and the fishing village Santa Maria La Scala.

In spring or summer (or on a brighter day) La Timpa probably looks better…

Down by the coast we saw lots of cats. They had a little settlement for themselves 🙂

We walked into the fishing village Santa Maria La Scala. We read since that a lot of people had to be evacuated from this village, due to storm „Harry“ 😦 What happened to the cats?

Walking back up to Acireale.
