Sicily: Gole Alcantara und Gurne dell’Alcantara – 14.+15.1.26

On two successive days we went to the river Alcantara, once to the gorge (gole) and once a bit further upstream, to the little ponds (gurne).

The gorge is located in a park.

You need to take a lift down!

Lots of basalt columns 🙂

Back up with the lift, and then a walk through the park above.

Lots of lovely flowers and interesting trees.

In some places, you could look down into the gorge.

The view was great – most of the time 😉

Sometimes it was fantastic 🙂

Beautiful flowers everywhere!

The whole park is done nicely.

There is also a section with prehistoric animals!

Other interesting stuff 😉

The gorge one more time.

We have problems with our solar panels 😦 Kurt is trying to find the problem, with the aid of some cats!

The following day we visited that area again.

First we drove through Castiglione di Sicilia …

… then to Francavilla di Sicilia.

After the coffee we started our walk with a stroll through the narrow streets of the medieval town.

There are many derelict houses, and many churches!

Quite a few signs, explaining about the ponds and the river, and how to behave 😉

We liked that part of the town.

We reached the green part of our walk!

There is a disused railway line.

We were still waiting to see the ponds… Maybe underneath this bridge?

Yes – but what a disappointment. Perhaps there wasn’t enough rain just lately.

We extended our walk to see more of the river.

Finally, some ponds 🙂 It was amazing, this old barrage was still working!

There were some water channels. Throughout our walk, we saw the ruins on top of the hill, but they always looked different.

Remains of a bridge. The village on the opposite hill is called Motta Camastra (we think…).

The disused railway line ran through here. A special way to walk the dog 😉

The water here wasn’t clear anymore.

Walking back to our camper van and driving back to the lemon garden. We often see cars that are parked diagonal or sideways…
