Sicily: Marinella di Selinunte / Riserva Naturale Orientata Foce del fiume Belice – 3.2.26

The village Marinella di Selinunte is near the archaeological area of the ancient Greek city Selinunte. We started our walk at the playground.

We noticed that in Sicily the shutters are nearly always closed, no matter whether somebody lives in the house or whether it’s a holiday place. Why ? To keep the heat out – maybe in summer. To keep the cold out – maybe, now in winter…

We also noticed lots of little self-service kiosks selling medicines (all over Sicily).

This village has a few picturesque corners …

… and some nice plants.

Streets and street art.

On the shore …

… and by the harbour.

Up the path towards the Nature Reserve.

Lots of information boards.

The nature reserve „Riserva Naturale Orientata Foce del fiume Belice“ is only small, and the first leg runs along the coast.

The storm damage is still visible.

Beaches and dunes are always gorgeous.

Clouds were gathering in the west.

It was time to turn inland.

We reached the disused railway line …

… and the rusty bridge.

Walking back towards the village.

The old station.

They’ve gone to a lot of trouble with the wooden walkways.

Through the woods and along rough paths.

Back in the village.

Street art again, and some other details.

It was getting dark when our walk ended at the playground.
