Sicily: Pantalica, Valle dell’Anapo (west entrance) – 17.2.26

The morning near Cavagrande del Cassibile promised a beautiful day.

We drove towards Cassaro.

A few days ago we entered the Valle dell’Anapo from the east – this time we entered from the west.

The scenery was very similar: the path is a disused railway line, the river Anapo runs through the valley, some of the rocks are full of holes from tombs, there are a few tunnels – and again it was beautiful 🙂

Some lovely flowers and lots of butterflies.

There was nobody else, we had the valley to ourselves.

The weather stayed nice all day.

Ruins overgrown with vegetation.

It’s amazing what can grow on a sheer rock face!

We came across a pink building.

We turned back before we got to the spot we had reached a few days earlier (coming from the east).

A snake enjoyed the warm sun. In the end, we had to turn back again to look for a lost handkerchief. Luckily the wind didn’t blow it away!

After the walk, we drove north, past Ferla and a lot of wind turbines …

… until we reached Scordia.

We stayed there for the night, in the middle of town, next to a roller skating rink. Whilst out for a walk through the town, we came across a little restaurant where they put together a vegetable and salad platter especially for us 🙂
