Sicily: Caltagirone – 9.2.26

The weather wasn’t promising when we left Park4Kite. The hare didn’t mind 😉

The fire brigade has its own number plates!

Die Feuerwehr hat eigene Autoschilder!

We drove south, then through Gela. Lots of cars …

… and vans with fruit and vegetables for sale.

On our way inland we drove past Niscemi. Recently there was a catastrophic landslide.

The landscape was very green and hilly. We could see Caltagirone from far away.

The town is a production centre of pottery and ceramics. We parked in the city centre and had a look around the town.

Lots of narrow alleyways.

It started to rain when we arrived on a big square. We took shelter in the Galleria Luigi Sturzo. The inside was quite special, and there was even a café!

The Palazzo dell‘ Aquila.

The staircase „Scala Santa Maria del Monte“. Each one of the 142 steps is decorated with different hand-crafted ceramics.

On both sides, there are Interesting little alleys leading off, and some shops can be reached via the stairs.

At the top of the stairs is a huge head.

The stairs in front of the „museo regionale“ are very impressive!

In a sidestreet we witnessed a special situation: school was out, and parents were blocking the street, trying to pick up their children. As the saying goes: everyone wanted to be first 😉 It was a mess…

Some more impressions of our walk through town.

The bridge „Ponte San Francesco“.

From Caltagirone we drove through some beautiful countryside. I kept taking photos out of the car 😉

At one point we stood in front of a level crossing for ages! Finally a train drove past at a speed of about 5 km/h 🙂

The changing light and the view were fantastic.

We even drove over a mountain pass, and it was foggy!

Next time we will have a look at Ragusa… This time we drove right past it, all the way to Pozzallo, next to the sea.
