Sicily: drive via Sperlinga to Castelbuono – 18.2.26

Leaving Scordia. We saw a few road signs that weren’t entirely clear to us. But as such signs are often ignored in Sicily, we decided to go along with the local customs 😉

The fields were full of yellow flowers.

Before long, we could see Mount Etna in the distance.

We drove through Ramacca.

The journey continued through a vast, green landscape.

Sometimes there were obstructions or bad roads …

… but for the most part, the scenery was a delight. Because the road was closed, we had to take a steep, single-lane, winding minor road with virtually no passing places.

In Assoro we had a break.

We carried on driving, catching a glimpse of Mount Etna now and then.

It became increasingly hilly.

We reached the village Sperlinga –> Sperlinga.

We went for a walk through the village. Cacti grew on many roofs.

Sperlinga is known for its cave dwellings.

It was interesting to climb around on that rock with the „flats“ in it.

By chance we detected a little bar.

Some more impressions from Sperlinga.

The castle was already closed, we could only admire it from the outside.

The lower part of Sperlinga.

We drove on northeast, past Gangi, Geraci Siculo and the Parco delle Madonie (with lots of cork oaks) …

… until we reached Castelbuono.
